01

Prevention

Everyone right across the common law world knows that declining mental health is an issue in the law: depression, anxiety, burn out and addiction are all problems. Prevention is clearly required, it is best for the firm, the lawyer and ultimately for the clients.

Across the country law firms are doing their best to protect their people but it is a complicated issue that requires inputs from different directions. Many Large law firms now designate their human resources departments responsible for mental health initiatives. Medium and small firms usually have to cobble together help.

MHRL designs tailor programs. We start from the intellect: lawyers are thinkers first and mental health programming has to meet them where they are. From there we include everything from firm-focused lunch and learns, to regular live mindfulness meditations geared at the participants, to community building, to blogs and podcasts aimed at all aspects of life that contribute to well-being.

MHRL designs tailored programs to fit the firm.

02

Protection

Client fear and trauma in high conflict litigation inevitably augments stress for practitioners. We protect lawyers by helping clients.

Our team trains counsellors with skills specific to the law. Counsellors with an understanding of the legal processes, the language, the complexity as well as the psychology of family dynamics, conflict management techniques and a listening ear for a law client who is upset, angry or afraid. The purpose of this is to take the relational stress between lawyer and client down a notch or two: meeting the needs of the lawyer through the client.

Addiction

Alcohol and lawyers: a ubiquitous pairing. Less obvious is the prevalent addiction to many other addictive substances and behaviours.

This offering to law firms and lawyers is a private, comprehensive, personalized approach to addictions. From the first call to the last, our team is there to make this process as integrated, private and comprehensive as the individual requires.

Each client receives a personalized plan devised by experts with long experience in the field. With a commitment to full confidentiality and respect, our team members all have experience with addiction and they understand the process from the inside out. This program includes not only the identified person but also includes those in the family who also need help.
